Scott Aitken is an award winning commercial and fine art photographer.

 

Scott has worked extensively with a very unique style of art photography called painting with light. These photos have a very ethereal or surreal feeling unachievable with normal lighting techniques. The effects are created by using very long exposures in a dark space, and lighting the model and background with a moving hand-held light. Viewers often mistakenly guess that these photos have been digitally altered, but they are not. All of the effects are achieved through the use of selective lighting. Because this lighting cannot be metered, each photo is a mini-experiment and completely unique.

 

Scott is originally from Canada. His family immigrated to the US and he spent most of his childhood in the midwest. He has lived in Seattle since 1984.
